Back to gaming !

When you see you can't get anymore motivation for your projets, you know it's time for a game.

We had a game last sunday, a 2 vs 2, with wome 1.5k armies.

It was an awkward alliance between Orks (korsairs) and some White Scars vs Dark Angels and UltraSumrfs.
At the third -and last- turn, I finally allowed the terminators to rain on the table.

Seeing this, one scout sergeant yelled from the top of his lungs "YOLO!!!" and sprinted for an epic fight with the Big Boss and his Nobz.

No need to say that he was dead before the end of the turn...

Unfortunately, we couldn't play more than three turns.
It finished on a draw.

It was a fun game and I was really happy to play again.

Last time I played was in august, 10 month ago.
I needed time to heal some scars.

Med Tour 2014

Every Med Tour starts with a fully loaded minis case. And what better case than the Apocalypse limited edition ?

I had a shock when I arrived at Perpignan. I had a 17°C when I leaved Savenay, and a 37°C, 10 hours later at Perpignan.

First players arrived friday, we took time to eat and discuss before playin'

First Day...

Med Tour is a two day meeting where we come to play at Warhammer 40,000 the Apocalypse way. And when you say Apocalyspe, you mean... Lords Of War !

Haridan's in town, and it's hungry !
Nothing can replace a Harridan's "Good morning !" smile when you arrive on your first day table. This very well painted organic flyer comes from an army named "My little Forest Animals". So cute...

The All new painted mini malediction strikes again ! Every unit of my 3k DA army, fresly painted, doesn't stay more than two rounds on the table !

Even the Land Raider, painted a long time ago, didn't escape this malediction !

The game was one of a kind: Nids everywhere, Terminators falling from the sky, and Chaos Gods laughing hard. Our Astartes and Mecanicum alliance couldn't resist the Great Devorer and Chaos Space Marines alliance.

To win or to loose, what's the matter ? We played, had a good time and took great pictures. An apocalypse game is made to see great armies have great battles on great tables.

The Med Tour is also having a BBQ with friends, to take time to discuss about our Holly Hobby and everything that happened during last year.

Second Day...

A croissant, a coffee and 'ere we go !.

This time, it's desparate times : we decided to have a mirror alliance on both sides. An astartes, a Nurgle Marine, a Khorne Marine and a Necron players will fight.

I decided to keep only one terminator squad in reserves and place all the other squads on the table.

Apocalypse isn't only a big fight. It's a wonderful huge fight with huge armies, huge Lords of War and themed armies.

You'll see a 7 Nurgle Chaos terminators squad and a Khorne demon possessed dreadnought fall from the sky... Right in the back of your previously decimated terminator squad !

An Apocalypse game allows players to create crazy armies. Like a Nurgle army based on the sacred number 7, or an all Forge World Mecanicum army.

All you need is time and motivation.

Bobby trap !

Which one, which one ?
Here the scenario that we generally use with the club, in order to change sempiternal “Kill them all”.

The scenario is played with six objectives, numbered from 1 to 6, that you place on the table with the number not being visible. It is preferable not to place the objectives in the deployment zones, in order to support moving, instead of "stand by" armies.

Movement phase

Each objective is equipped with a movement detector, with a 2 inches range. Vehicles and walkers do not start it… the rest does ! Once the detector activated, an infernal countdown starts. If the objective is not defused in time, a plasma load will destroy it (great explosion, S7 AP2).
From this moment, the unit wants at all costs defuse the bomb in order to save the objective.

NB: if a unit begins the game, depth-strikes or disembarks in a distance less than two steps of an objective, then the rules above apply immediately.

Shooting Phase

If it's not already done, the player MUST place a figurine of this unit in contact with the objective. The rest of the unit profits from a free 2 inches movement to remain in cohesion with the figurine in question. The unit can NOT fire. It's too occupied protecting the bomb disposal expert.

NB: any unit can, and must, try to defuse the objective, from the moment it is not a vehicle nor a walker.

One reveals the number of the objective and one passes to the phase of draining.
One launches a dice and, according to the number of the objective:
  1. Draining always successful
  2. Draining successful on 2+
  3. Draining successful on 3+
  4. Draining successful on 4+
  5. Draining successful on 5+
  6. Draining successful on 6+
a/ Draining went well, then the objective is conquered by the unit. Classical objectives rules  apply then: only the troops can have it.

b/ Draining failed. The plasma load explodes. Great explosion, S7 AP2.
Obviously, the objective is destroyed and withdrawn from the table.

Alternative:
During the movement phase, the player's unit that started the detector can place more than one figurine in contact. Thus, during the draining, the player can launch one dice for each mini in contact with the objective.

FWD XXVII

After a long period, I'm back to the French Waaagh Day. I came with my five years old Dark Angels army. No new unit, I have enough work with the Med Tour preparation.

We had many tables and armies, but one table caught my attention. It represents a Necrontyr invasion on an Eldar world. Impressive.

I played two games during this FWDay. Not bad, when you know this week-end isn't a tournament. It allows us to meet IRL after six month on the mailing list.

First game : Order vs Chaos
 - Order : Imperials Fists (Le VIeux), Black Templars (Wernher) et Dark Angels (Aarghal).
 - Chaos : World Eaters, Word Bearers and Khorne deamons.

3k points on each side. It's gonna hurt !

Vindicator, pre-Heresy Ironclad and Rhino. Wanna get some ?
For the first time since I painted it, I saw my VIndicator on the table for more than one and a half turn.

We had a pre-Heresy Adpetus Mecanicus robots unit.
Second game : back to basics !
 - Space Marines : Red Hunters (Franssoué), Black Templars (Wernher) and Dark Angels (Aarghal).
 - Orks : Blood Axes (Larg), orks (Tarpan) and... orks (El Grot).

So many orks, so few Space Marines
There where so many Orks minis on the table, we had a childish smile on our faces.

Looted Leman Russ, a real piece of work.
Blood Axes looted a Leman Russ, and painted it's front face in Bad Moon colors.

BBQ anybody ?
Kommandos' weapons are painted in green camo with black stripes. Devil's in details.

I'm back from the 27th French Waaagh Day.
It was a crazy week-end, and I will tell you more about it next week.

Med Tour (3)

When you are at the Med Tour, you'll have to prepare your eyes. There are so many cool minis it'll blow up your mind ! Here are some pics to give you a hint.

This is Redbreast, da Ruzz Bot based on an old Armorcast model.

Awesome conversion and painting work created an incredible piece of war.

Sadly, he's owner's a Bad Moon...
Knight Titan vs Old World creature.

Only Tzeench could have created such a fight.
Welcome to the Med Tour 2013 !

This year, we don't have one, but two Chaotic Reavers to spread fear and despair !
 Typical Med Tour picture :

a heavily modified Stompa follows a Blight Wheel Miniatures Knight.

Med Tour (part 2)

Apocalypse, da real one !
The Med Tour is first and foremost an opportunity for a small number of players to meet around a table and play a Warhammer 40.000 Apocalypse game.

But not the good old Gran'pa Apo where you come with all kind of armies and a bunch of allies to fill the 3k army list !

I'm talking about an apocalypse game for real players, where armies count 3k points without allies, with more Super Heavies that you've ever seen in your all life...

I'm talking about the Forge World Apocalypse, the real one.

No less than FOUR super heavies in this picture...
Saturday game :
The good side : Ultramarines (Bamako) - Dark Angels (Aarghal) and Eldars (Patriarche)
The Bad side : Bad Moons (Greg) - Thousand Sons (Alaric) and GI (Duncan)

We had a lot of Super Heavies :
  - One Tzeench Silver Tower (hand made)
  - Two Ruzz Bots (old Armorcast)
  - One Baneblade (Games Workshop kit)
  - One Shadowsword (Games Workshop kit)
  - Two Titan Knights (garage OOP series)

Half the bad ones army in front of me ? CHAAAAARGE !!!
The game was epic. Full of twists, situations reversals, apocalyptic explosions and setbacks. Imagine the devastating effects of the new big apocalyptic explosion when a titan explodes !  -

One of the game's best time : I deepstriked with no less than 30 terminators, and Belial, on turn 2.

I love playing my terminators. In a 1500 pts game, I'm playing a squand counting 10 terminators every time I can.

For this week-end, I played :
  - Belial
  - 10 T with two heavy flammers*
  - 10 T with two assault canons
  - 10 Deathwing Knights
*including 4 lightning claws pairs and 3 Thunder Hammers.

Med Tour 2013 (1)

My apologies for last week. I didn't post anything and I'm ashamed about it. I was completly out of control with the Med Tour event.

It started with a long two weeks painting rush.
I can't hold a pencil for a month, but it was totally worth it !

3k Dark Angels Army. Repent for your sins !

With Belial as an HQ, all terminators are troops. Almost : Deathwing Knights aren't.

This allowed me to grab only one minis bag. I had a 10 hours train travel, including two train changes.

The gaming room is ready, with four tables for a 3 vs 3 game. Almost all are made with Games Workshop -and Forge World- hard tables.

This will be a pretty good gaming week-end !

[more next post, next week]

20/04/2013

WaterGun - First Dark Angels real test !

First field test for the Deathwing, with an army inspired by the Purging of Kadillus book.

To grossly summarize the book, it's the confrontation of a massive WAAAGH and a Dark Angels contingent. Belial is present to direct the operations.

I mounted an army (1500 pts) with:
 - Belial accompanied by a squad of terminators.
 - The Ravenwing unit: 3 bikes and an assault one.
 - A tactical unit with rhino.
 - A unit of scouts.

For fun, I've added a Deathwing Knights unit. However, they do not appear in the photos: I had to use an assault terminators unit in count-as.

To stick to the story, it had had to face a horde of orks, but these were the necrons. So I added an Aegis defense line with AA autocanon, in anticipation of some croissants flight.

The battle highlights :

Belial, a squad of terminators and an assault bike remain blocked in melee by a simple necron warrior. And, despite the boss' death, it just pass his Cd test with a minus 5 !

The final clash: the last Necrons squad accompanied by their Chief in second confronts the tactical squad and the Knights of the DeathWing.

The great discovery of this game is the Deathwing Knights. This terminators unit is simply the best terminator unit created ever ! They hit with S6 I4, cause fear and have T5 in close combat; all of it for the same price than 5 assault terminators !

It's decided, I need a 10 DeathWing Knights unit to play in an Apocalyspe game !

Dark Angels v6 test

Benefitting from one of the (too) rare WaterGun meetings where I can be present, I decided to test the all new Dark Angels v6. I started with a 1k points army, with an imposed topic. I was preparing the Warriors Tournament, which takes place in March 2013.
The topic is armoured column.

The list :
 - Techmarine
 - 5 terminators
 - 5 scouts (no sniper, all C&C equiped)
- 10 SM (ener. sword, flammer and multifusor)
- Nephilim
- Whirlwind
- Vindicator

I faced a Vanilla Space Marines list, centered on fast attack, Raven Guard themed.

First report: contrary to the vanilla, DA sergeants cannot take any teleportation beacon ! But that didn't stop me to try a very dangerous deep strike and succeed !

A DeathWing assault becomes terribly effective, especially since you decide when it will happen

This game enabled me to test Nephilim and to revise my 40k v6.

At first sight, the Avenger Méga-bolter is a good anti-infantry. And the Blacksword missiles are a (un)pleasant joke. S6 and AP4 for single use missiles. Are you kidding?
Had they been S7 and AP3, their presence had justified the Nephilim's exorbitant cost (180 pts).

Especially when you known that the Stormtalon cost culminates at 155 pts

In conclusion : The new DA are pleasant to play, even if their sergeants can't be equipped with a localization beacon (Da f*ck?).
Next army: 1500 points of pure DeathWing !

Med Tour (part 4)

So, hoard u want'd moar ?

The 2012 Med Tour Med had a particular theme: the Horus Heresy.

And when you see the Lion's Gate assault replayed on a table... it seems that, with a bit of motivation (and much work), one can create beautiful things.

Ten posts won't be enough to show you all Tour Med marvels. This is why I warmly recommend you make on the site of the French Waaagh, and the Med Tour 2012 section.

To all those who ask me who made the two Knights Titans and if there is still a way to get them, here's the answer.

They are OoP (Aka Out of Production).

Beautiful work, they were created by Mr. BigDaddy. Although no more Titans manufacturer today, he still creates many beautiful minis.

Check it out: blightwheelminiatures

Med Tour (part 3)

Before the Med Tour, I had never ever played Apocalypse 40k . The biggest army I ever played was 2000 points so far, and Super Heavy had never left the showcase for the battlefields...

Apocalypse battlefields are A.W.E.S.O.M.E !
When I found myself in an Apocalypse game with no less than 40,000 (forty thousand) (!) points on the table, I realized that I was in heaven. A precision by the way: anyone can set up an army to 4000 points. But when you want to take part in the Med Tour, it is WYSIWYG Full Paint required (NO exception). I therefore played on a table with huge sets, and fully painted armies, from the basic grunt to the hugest titan.

Paradise now!

First game, Orks vs. Rest of the world was a feast for the eyes. Result is irrelevant, because playing with so many points on the table gives you vertigo. The absence of "real" Imperial as Warhounds and Reavers motivated to me to paint one.

Defend the door against a horde of orks? check!
Come get some !

Next day, it delivers cover with a less violent portion with "only" 24000 points on the table. Necrons-Orks vs. Alliance. Eldar Imperium.

This gives a drop-pod that landed before a horde of Orks.
-They are 300!
-We are 10.
- But we are Space Marines!

In conclusion: I have less than a year to paint an Armorcast Warhound and a FellBlade.

Med Tour (part 2)

The Tour Med is a  French Waaagh members gathering Perpignan city. As usual, it's time to play Warhammer 40,000 but here, it is only in an Apocalypse scale !

4,000 points Doom Angels army. Almost...
I came with a little less than the 4,000 targeted points, blame the delivery of two "small" Forge World Eldar minis. After hours of train, I finally arrived in Perpignan, I 'm allowed by the Catalan hospitality , accompanied by a human warmth like no other.

Saturday morning, I discover the playing room. There are four tables and all the armies accompanied by their Super Heavy (tanks, walkers and mega-creatures). Apocalypse means huge tables. And for the Med Tour, the main table represented the Lion's Gate. It is here that we are going to (re)play one of the greatest Horus heresy battle.
Tanks in the ramparts are Stormblades and a Land Raider.

The Lion Gate and the Emperor's gardens.
His Spirit was present on the table.
The other tables were beautiful too. I wish to thank the the Med Tour for the tables quality. It is rare to see so much sets in such quantities and qualities. All full painted, for sure.

Dominatrix vs. Phantom. Epic played in the 40k scale...
(to be coutinued...)

LES HUSSARDS D’ISENGARD (Part 2)

Army List Analys: I came to Rennes with a list I wasn’t satisfied with. All the units I needed weren’t painted, I had to do with the painted minis I had at my disposal.

HQ
Chaplain; Flying backpack, Bolt pistol.
I know, a flying chaplain isn’t the best HQ choice for a vanilla Space Marines army. I wanted to play a “cool” list and such a choice was ok with the fluff I wrote. Next time, I’ll take a Captain equipped with a Relic sword and Combi-flammer instead.

ELITE
5 Assault terminators; 3 Hammer & Shield and 2 Lightning claws pairs.
Transport : Land Raider Crusader; Multimelta.
Assault terminators and Crusader Land Raider are one of the best freakin’ units alliance! I just need to remember that when a model’s hit by a Thunder hammer, it looses it’s initiative and must play after anybody else.

Dreadnought; Multimelta and Storm bolter.
  Transport : Drop-pod; Storm bolter
Murphy’s law incarnated in one mini. The Multimelta would have missed a Tervigon in a corridor! Add the Drop Pod and these are two KP (Kill Points) offered to your adversary.

Ironclad Dreadnought; Seismic fist, Heavy Flammer and Hurricane bolters, Grenades.
A rare configuration but, when the Ironclad is immobilized, it remains dangerous and still mobilizes forces to be definitely silenced. I regret I hadn’t one in the Drop Pod (instead of that $%µ! Multimelta dread) during my confrontation with the Dark Eldars. It would have been terribly effective.
However, using the Ironclad without Drop Pod is an interesting choice. And in this case, believe me, the grenades are essential!
After all these games fighting against various armies, obviousness appears: Dreadnoughts used by pair are terribly effective. I hesitate between a second Ironclad in Drop-pod and a “goalkeeper” equipped with Autocannons, Dreadnought fist and Heavy flammer.

TROUPS
5 Scouts; 4 Snipers, Missile launcher, Capes.
Capes are obligatory; I haven’t been able yet to test the heavy Bolter.
Scouts can hold surprises. Take 5 of them, embark them in a Storm land speeder making a side attack. Add a Sergeant equipped with a Power fist, you’ll see some sport on the table!

10 SM; Flammer and Laser canon, Sergeant with Energetic sword and Bolt pistol.
  Transport : Rhino; Storm bolter.
Laser canon is a must have. Sergeant with an Energetic sword is a good alternative to the Power fist option. He offers one more attack in close combat and strikes at I4, which isn’t negligible. The rhino can be used as transport either as a gun platform.

10 SM; Melta and Missile launcher, Powa glove and Combi-flammer Sergeant.
I prefer the Combi-flammer to the Combi-melta: more effective and less random. Another transport (Rhino or Razorback) would be welcome.

FAST ATTACK
10 Assault SM; 2 Plasma guns, Sergeant with Power fist and Plasma gun.
Very expensive unit. Funny to play but not very profitable.

Land Speeder Tornado; double Heavy Bolter.
Troops’ nemesis by essence. Fragile but useful.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Whirlwind.
The "pizza dealer", essential against mass armies.

Conclusion :
I finished 19th on 36 with a 15.5/20 note in painting.
Within sight of the obtained results, there remain two things to be made: to take again the painting of my Doom Angels (I only have 3000 points to –partially– repaint) and to work my army list.

06/05/2012

LES HUSSARDS D’ISENGARD (part. 1)

1850 points tournament, list refusal and obligatory painting. In addition, orgas imposed we wrote down a fluff to justify the army prepared for the tournament.

First game: Imperial guard
Scénarii: Quarters of table, objectives, KP.

Kill that tank !
My oppenent's a youg man and this is its second time in a tournament. Three Leman, two Chimeras, a Basilik count-have Medusa and some troops. Our Holly Hobby isn't for him: its army, mainly supplemented with an orga's, is neither finished, nor WYSIWYG. (This guy just won the Most Awful Army Price).

No stress, we're all here to play. The Multi-melta Dread enters with its pod and misses its shooting (SNAFU). Between the un-WYSIWYG and the Medusa firing indirectly*, I take amazing damages.

I tighten my teeth, sends my remaining Assault Marines and Terminators to the dread's rescue while the surviving tactical marines add supporting fire. The last terminator will then seek the sections in the ruins. Its tanks explode while its sections die one after another. Victory !

(*) Medusa fires at F10 AP2, direct shooting only.

Second game: Blood Angels
Scénarii: capture (5 objectives), Kill the HQ, KP.

Multi melta's... off.
Sympathetic adversary, no Black Guard in its army. Three razorbacks, a librarian with Shield of Sanguinus, Two tactical sections with two Sanguiniens Priests, 4xMissile-Laucher Déva, Dread with double autocannon and Land-Speeder Typhoon twins.

Between this %¤µ*! Shield on the rhino carpark, the priests' Feel No Pain and my D6 who think they are D3, the game is difficult. I take death every turn, my bolts are made of rubber and the shieldings made in paperboard. Major defeat.

The game was so boring my adversary apologises for winning!

Third game: Tau
Scénarii: To take and hold, KP.

Young player for a traditional army: three Crisis (XV-8 and XV-15) sections, three Fire Warriors sections; a Hammerhead and two XV-88 to make bad things to shieldings.

He doesn'tcontrol its army yet but, fortunately for him, this is my first time against Tau since we are in 40kV5. Former player Tau v4, I know that he fears close combats. But if I start running in the No man's Land, I can see three railguns which awaits  an error to smoke my tanks.

The dreadnought arrives in drop-pod and … f*cks up its Multi-melta shooting (ace usual) on the Hammerhead. This one will survive all the game! I drive the terminators in a ruin to dislodge the XV-88 twins. Intelligently, my adversary protected them with seven warriors.
Despite the amount of fire power delivered by the Crusader, the Fire Warriors resist! Unloading and assault. A termi dies under a combat drone blows. Shooting phase then assault with the XV-88. Another drone kills a terminator. Who programmed those $µ!£ drones !?

At the battle field other end , a Devilfish unloads its load before attacking the marines. Epic phase of shooting where, after having avoided all the possible projectiles, a tactical marine fires from the rhino trap and... that transport smashes down! Assault marines attack and early reduce it to stray … but they lost two brothers in the following explosion.

An cool game, with a pleasant and talented adversary despite its weak experice. Facing him again will be a pleasure.

[Eat, Drink, Sleep]

Fourth game: Dark Eldars
   Scénarii: Table quarters, objectives, KP.

Hold at any price !
My oppenent belongs to the WaterGun association too but we never played together. Small detail which has its importance: the game proceeds entirely in night combat! The scenario is simple: each player must go to seek an objective in the other's zone while preventing its adversary from coming in.

I gain first turn and sends the dreadnought multifuseur-bolter … which misses. SNAFU! The two first turns resemble at my second game: dices start again to think they are D3. Unable to aim correctly, Ravers swing between projectiles. Only trophy to my credit: a complete motojets section, pulverized by the Crusader.

The game takes a new turn when a simple Scouts section manages to resist a Wyches assault… before making them flee! Meanwhile, Tactical marines hold their position on the smoking ruin of their Rhino, while waiting for reinforcements. And here come the reinforcements. For both sides!

The game soon becomes an extatic dream where the Pleasure of playing two perfectly paradoxical armies in an epic confrontation  is palpable. Not less than fifteen (15!) units mash up on a modest table quarter encumbered with smoking carcasses. Shooting, fire support, charge, counter-charge. Projectiles fly everywhere, blows rain as hell, dices roll unceasingly and we completetly forget what time it is. Started at 09:30, the game will last no less than 4 hours for four turns (we had to stop it).

Epic battle is epic !
After ten years practicing our Holly Hobby, I have never ever played such an epic game, with such difficult and crucial strategic choices. I want to thank my adversary for this game that'll remain for a long time in my memory. Thanks to him, he pushed me hard in the game and helped me to discover Warhammer 40.000 on a new aspect.

Fifth game: Daemons
  Scénarii: Cross the table, KP.

Le wild Bloodthirster appears !
Back from Nirvana, I fall in Hell. I will have to face an army from the Daemons codex, improbable alliance from Khorne and Tzeench.

On the menu: Daemon Prince twins, Soul Grinder twins and 3 Horrors sections. What an imagination you have! Let us add a Bloodthister, 8 Khorne Flesh Hounds and 6 Tzeentch Flamers for the fluff. And two Khorne Bloodcrushers to have a1850 points army.

The scenario's not helping. I form a death star at the edge of table and forward! Waves of daemons crash on my defenses, it's annyoning. To add to my chance, my adversary plays its life on the table! Its dice, launched with rage, cross the table and, too many times, land on the ground. He turns as a tiger trapped in a cage while I'm playing and doesn't speak.

Result is like the game: boring no one wins.
