Deathwing command squad

Last squad for my 3k Dark Angels apocaypse army: Belial's command squad.

Full paint
Belial and its command squad.

This squad is the final step in a long time project, started in semtember 2013. All the bitz I needed to create this squad took me years to get.

Bases come from Dragon Forge Miniatures, shoulders pads from Scibor Miniatures and all the minis are based on the Deathwing knights squad box.

Belial's equipped with Canis Wolfborn's lightning claws and a Chaos Space Marines Terminator Lord cape. Its base was realised with a Gales Workshop Cities of death floor and a lion head I founded at Scibor Miniatures.

Deathwing Knights

Deathwing knights are different from the other terminators units : they all wear a chasuble over their Armour. This fabric adds colour and distinguish them as "the" veterans among other veterans.

Deathwing Knights being assault terminators, I took the same colour scheme than for my first terminators assault squad, painted in 2010 (!).

Repent for your sins !
These five first Knights will soon see five more terminators join them. This summer, I'll play a ten knights squad in an apocalypse game.

Deathwing Knights - WiP 4

Only slight progress made this week. I wasn't able to paint : I had to work buy night all the week. Good news are these : the knights will be ready for the Dakka next week-end !

Deathwing Knights - WiP 1

No tile to loose, I must have a five Deathwing knights squad done before may 24th !

  One done, four to go...

Detail : I used Screaming Bell for the red metal.

Dark Vengeance part. 1 : terminators - WiP 1

Back to basics with the Dark Vengeance box terminators. The Sergeant is the first to be painted, I need it for the Dakka 2013 tournament.

Figures are good quality, although one-piece cast slows down the painter's fervour. Had to deal with the extended edges and false hollows, but nothing too bad.

Another good surprise: the 'clone' terminator's weapons can be easely exchanged. But it will be for next week...

Ravenwing squad - WiP 1

A quickly taken picture from the current Ravenwing squad.
Issued from the Dark Vengeance box, it's painted in the "right" colors. This squad's intended to integrate the Doom Angels for the time of a tournament. After, it is for sale.

It's good to have a speed painting session sometimes...

Land Raider Redeemer - WiP 2

Burn heretics, burn !

The LRR (Land Redeemer Raider) assembly, builded for the (future) Death Wing Knights is finished. The configuration is not the same one as on the first Land Raider. I wanted to give it an older aspect, more massive.

In order to facilitate transport (and disassembling), the turrets are magnetized. I added a plastic door inside,  then glued a 3mm magnet on each sideFor painting, the turrets are not stuck, as well as the Space Marine arms. It may be necessary to wait a bit to see it painted, I have other minis to paint for a tournament.

Forge (re)Master

Here is the 2009 Forge Master with a new painting scheme. I think it's better than before, with more Highlights and paintint work. Repainting all my 3000 pts army is totally worth it. (pics soon)

Dark Angels Nephilim

Space marines, Games Workshop
I am pleased to present a fully painted Nephilim.

Even if it's a Dark Angels vehicule, it isn't painted in the Raven Wing colors.

I complied with the line set during the Doom Angels army creation : all components of this Dark Angels successor chapter are painted in Orkhide Shade.

Games Wrkshop, Space Marines
The configuration won't change : the "Mega-bolter Avenger" is very effective against infantry. Moreover, the missiles (S6) are too weak to hunt tanks; so forget the twin lasers.

The painting is damaged, like the other vehicles. The damage are lighter than on a tank, the Nephilim remains one - hum - flyer.

Dark Angels v6 test

Benefitting from one of the (too) rare WaterGun meetings where I can be present, I decided to test the all new Dark Angels v6. I started with a 1k points army, with an imposed topic. I was preparing the Warriors Tournament, which takes place in March 2013.
The topic is armoured column.

The list :
 - Techmarine
 - 5 terminators
 - 5 scouts (no sniper, all C&C equiped)
- 10 SM (ener. sword, flammer and multifusor)
- Nephilim
- Whirlwind
- Vindicator

I faced a Vanilla Space Marines list, centered on fast attack, Raven Guard themed.

First report: contrary to the vanilla, DA sergeants cannot take any teleportation beacon ! But that didn't stop me to try a very dangerous deep strike and succeed !

A DeathWing assault becomes terribly effective, especially since you decide when it will happen

This game enabled me to test Nephilim and to revise my 40k v6.

At first sight, the Avenger Méga-bolter is a good anti-infantry. And the Blacksword missiles are a (un)pleasant joke. S6 and AP4 for single use missiles. Are you kidding?
Had they been S7 and AP3, their presence had justified the Nephilim's exorbitant cost (180 pts).

Especially when you known that the Stormtalon cost culminates at 155 pts

In conclusion : The new DA are pleasant to play, even if their sergeants can't be equipped with a localization beacon (Da f*ck?).
Next army: 1500 points of pure DeathWing !

Dark Angels Whirlwind - Repaint

I'm still re-painting my Dark Angels army, alternating Marines and vehicles.

For this one, I modified the way I painted the impacts on the body. Instead of simply painting rusty metal, I added a border of the same color as the body highlights. This border strengthens the zones of rust impact.

Lenses have been redone, as well as all the red zones. Finally, I added numerous micro-impacts, using a blister foam. And if we look at the old painted version, progress is obvious.

United colors of Dark Angels (2)

I dashed into a mad work: I'm going to repaint all the Dark Angels minis I painted since the beginning.

And as you can see, there is a lot to do!

However, I think it's totally worth it.

If we compare both Marines on the right, the new green highlights are effective, even if still tabletop.

Let me add a better work on the reds and you have Dark Angels which are a little less " dark ".

Dark Angels Stormtalon

Death comes from above !
The Stormtalon can finally go to war: the base is completed.

The crater is a nod to two armies I know. You can see the remains of a Word Bearers SMC helmet , and the other side of the crater, a Venerable Dreadnought Ultramarines leg.

StormTalon WiP (5)

Now that the flyin' brick thing's painture is done, I'm almost finished with the base.

Just need to add some details and this flyer will be ready to storm the Emperor's ennemies !

StormTalon WiP (4)

The Stormtalon painting is complete. No offense meant to the "factory-released" supporters, I made him suffer the blister foam ravages.
Red additions on the missile launcher and turbines light up the flyer. Add a cutted foot and you have a Stormtalon in full action !
Now, I need to work on the base.

StormTalon WiP (3)

Before - After
I mounted the Stormtalon's "stand up" and it looks great. But not as great as I wanted it.

It just seemed to be a big green flyin' brick block with wings.
Even the highlights weren't enough to make me think that this flyer wasn't just another Space Marine kit.
My reaction was just... "Meh."

Then, the good idea came when I added the missiles pods.

All the weapons in my DA army are painted in red. On first, I only painted the missiles.
But when I added more red on the missiles pod, the Stormtalon just flashed in front of my eyes.
That's what we call the "Wow!" effect.

StormTalon WiP (2)

I made some progress in the Stormtalon painting, with the the first highlights application and symbols painting .

Two symbols are present: that of the Dark Angels, as well as the RavenWing, both painted in the Doom Angels' colors.

I used the following:
  - Black undercoat
  - base Orkhide Shade
  - highlights Rotting Flesh

Unfortunately, all these colours are no longer available. Having tried the Caliban Green, it is absolutely not what can replace the good old Orkhide Shade: too much bright (and colorfull) !
By contrast, Nurgling Green seems a good solution to replace the old Rotting Flesh.
