Dark Angels Venerable Dreadnought

I won my bet, the dreadnought was finished before the end of march.

This mini required much work, a venerable isn't a grunt which paint can be neglected.

First work : magnetise all the weapons and arm's shoulders.
Then incorporate the heavy flammer in the body.
Lastly, adapt the Deathwing banner on the top.
Second weapon : the assault cannon.

The Weathring is  more "worked" than on older models, like its base. I needed this mini to be more realistic and old than the others.

Small details make great difference, I added a parchment issued from the devastator kit on the engine rear block. And painted Dark Angels on it.

The banner's back carries the Doom Angels Chapter colors. Black on top right, green on bottom left, and a red diagonal for separation.

Last weapon : the twin linked laser cannon.

There too, both shoulders are the same.

The dreadnought's base a vanilla Games Workshop. I added bitz and sand to create an "urban fight" environment.

Dark Angels Vénérable Dread - WiP 4

Still working on the Venerable. I need to finish it before april.

All three weapons are prepared. Because they have different shapes, I prepared all three different hoods for the left arm.

And when all these weapons are finished, I'll have the banner.

Dark Angels Venerable Dreadnought - WiP 3

Dark Angels Venerable Dreanought - WiP
Still working on the Venerable Dreadnought.

Base and body are done, but still needs weathering and battle damages.

Arm and guns are ready for paint. Even if I'll only use the heavy plasma, i'll paint the other options now, while I'm in the mood for it.

The banner will have to wait, I don't find the good colors.

Dark Angels Venerable Dreadnought - WiP 2

After a quick presentation in january, the Venerable Dreadnought is back for paint step.

Dark Angels Dreanought painting WiP
After almost a year painting Terminators, Terminators and... Terminators, it's a bit hard to find my marks with a vehicule. This is why I have another dreadnought, Ironclad model, on the workbench.

I'll have to make it double to finish it before the end of march.

Dark Angels Venerable Dreadnought - WiP 1

Let's have a break, one more time, and have a little talk about the Venerable Dreadnought, in this 3k Apocalypse army.

The initial project was to create a greenstuff banner and to place it on the white metal handle.

Then I letted the project rest and putted myself in the terminators painting work.
While having a break with the Angel's Wrath, I resumed my work on the banner, and the base.

Time missing to work properly, I decided to use the banner provided with the Deathwing Knights.

Magnet, plastic bitz, a piece of paper clip et voila !

The greenstuff banner will be used for another dreadnought.

To be continued ...

Belial and it's command squad

Two years ago, I tried to add a command squad to Belial. I painted the banner bearer and... stopped. But now I am on an -almost- all new 3k Dark Angels army project for the Med Tour 2014, I'm motivated !

Belial and it's command squad

Using bitz from the Deathwing Knights box, I mounted an apothicary, a slayer and two guards to escort Belial. All the shoulder pads are from Scibor. They need some work but are totally worth it !

Belial is equiped with a Space Wolf lightning claws. I founded them better than the Dark Angels ones. (And I  love the idea of having wome SW bitz on a DA mini).

And to apologise for being late, here is a WiP of the all new Dreadnought.

Challenge of the End of the world: back 2 work

You believed that the Challenge was over, for lack of combatants? No way! I continue to prepare the 3000 pts necessary for January 1st and the Apocalypse game envisaged with WaterGun.
All I have to paint to be ready is 2 terminators, a Crusader and the command squad.

[Elite] Ironclad

I'm proud to present my first "real" Ironclad dreadnought: Neron. Based on the Games Workshop Ironclad dreanought kit which can be described as "squary, ugly and... essential".

Because I wasn't satisfied with the GW arms, I bought another one from Forge World. And it rocks.

But I had a little problem: the Forge arm doesn't have a heavy flammer on it. This is why I modified the left front down side to integrate a heavy flammer.

I added a Dark Angel light and purification seals on the front side, and an imperial eagle on the top.
The bolters aren't modified.

Even if the snapshot isn't good enough, I can tell you that I worked hard on this mini and it may one of the best Doom Angel I ever painted. ^^

As you can see on the rear view, I made weathering on all sides. Even the Forge World arm was damaged!

And if you have good eyes, you can see a reference to the Great Provider...

[Elite] Ironclad (WiP)

As usual, I'm late in painting for the End of the World Challenge...

This is why I present you a work in progress picture from my first "real" Ironclad Dreadnought. It won't have a Games Workshop left arm, but one from Forge World.

[Elite] Dreadnoughts

Gaïus - click to enlarge
When I had finished my two firts tactical squads, a logical choice would have been to paint a HQ choice.
But I did not.
I was too impatient to have a dreadnought under my brushes.

I started with the same dreadnought than in Down of War: assault canon, heavy flamer. I added to the Games Workshop kit a Dark Angel symbol and a buckler to represent the reinforced armor. Some other armor pieces are using the DA kit.

To finish the job, I painted some impacts and added a metallic vets banner on the roof top.

One month later, I started an Assault for Black Reach dreadnought. I was disappointed by the kit: the arms are hollow and with less details. But I had to have such a squat dreadnought in my army.

The roof top was equiped with a small DA symbol. I added barbed wire and some wall parts on the base.

One year later, I decided to play Gaïus as an Ironclad dreadnought.

I replaced the assault canon arm with a chainsaw combat arm. This arm is made with parts coming from both right and left arms of the Ironclad Games Workshop kit. I added two grenade lauchers on the roof top to finish the Ironclad transformation.

All I need now is a dreadnought drop pod.
